0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000, and 9% on income above that threshold, applying to financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023.

Who is eligible or required to register for VAT?

Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration is available from AED 187,500.

What is the standard VAT rate in the UAE?

5%, applied to most goods and services. Certain categories are zero-rated or exempt, such as some healthcare, education, and exports.

Do free zone companies pay corporate tax?

A Qualifying Free Zone Person can benefit from a 0% rate on qualifying income if it meets the Federal Tax Authority's conditions — otherwise, standard rates apply.

When is the corporate tax return due?

Generally within 9 months of the end of the relevant tax period.

Can I register and file myself, or do I need help?

Registration and filing can be self-managed through the Federal Tax Authority portal, but many businesses bring in support to avoid errors and missed deadlines — this is one of the areas I assist with.

General guidance only, not a substitute for advice specific to your business. Rates and thresholds are current as of publication and subject to change by the Federal Tax Authority.
